Stage One - Tyre Foundations 

The Hautbois Eco hub plans have been approved and the first phase of the build is  underway. The foundations for the new eco hub classroom been started, this involves lots of digging, tyres, gravel and soil!

The eco hub is made from recycled and natural materials including old car tyres that would otherwise end up at rubbish tips and in landfill.

Large holes are dug 1.2 metres wide, the tyres are rammed with gravel and stacked high to make the strong foundations of the building and then the holes are back-filled with the soil. View more pictures on our Hautbois Facebook Page.

Stage Two - Straw Bale Walls

Over 175 straw bales are being piled high and compressed into load-bearing walls which will be topped by a sedum roof ready for a hoped-for opening in the autumn. Straw and other natural materials create sustainable and healthy homes. Straw has been used for over 100 years and creates durable and safe homes and work spaces.

Campaign To Protect Rural England - Open Days  

Hautbois opened its doors to members of the public for an insight into building of the straw bale eco hub. Over 40 members of the public, including families, builders and corporate representatives, attended the special ‘eco tours' to come and see the developments in action as part of environmental charity CPRE Norfolk's Green Buildings Open Days.

Hautbois was one of 24 properties who took part in the Green Buildings Open Days, which offer visitors the chance to learn from, and ask questions of, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and impartial owners of existing environmentally-friendly buildings in Norfolk.
